A day like many others in the life of a common American couple from Baltimore, a road trip which will arouse thoughts, memories and recriminations.
WHY I READ IT:
The author was chosen by one of the reading groups I attend and I decided to read this book because it already was in my wish list.
This first approach with Anne Tyler was good for me, I succeeded in entering the book, in sitting in the car with Ira and Maggie and in following them in their flashes back. Nevertheless, I couldn’t stand Maggie and it’s not easy to appreciate a book when you don’t like the protagonist, as Maggie is the pillar of the story, everything revolves around her.
In this book, the author perfectly depicts the discomfort not only of this couple, but also of its whole family; indeed, when I finished the book I was glad I was not part of it.
I will certainly read other books by Anne Tyler, her style is really engaging.
