It's 1890 and I’m locked up with no way out inside the castle of a bloodthirsty Count who doesn’t want me to get back to my beloved England. I must find a way to escape from here!

  1. April is poetry month where I live and Theodore Roethke is the poet I chose to review and discuss in my book group. A far cry from being in a castle with a bloodthirsty Count. Nothing to fear as one wakes in these lines from the poem The Waking:
"I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I have to go.

We think by feeling. What is there to know?"
